How to verify a supplier before you place an order

A wrong supplier costs you money and time. A few checks before you pay protect both. Here is the checklist.

Verify the GSTIN

Confirm the GST number is valid and active, and that the registered name matches who you are dealing with. A fake or cancelled GSTIN is an immediate red flag.

Ask for references

Request two or three current buyers and actually call them. Ask about quality consistency, delivery timing, and how the supplier handles problems.

Test with a sample and a small order

Pay for a sample, then a small first order. This reveals real quality and reliability far better than any claim.

Protect the payment

Avoid full advance to a new supplier. Use part-advance and balance on dispatch, or an escrow-style arrangement until trust is built.
