How to get export orders from India

Export orders open a much larger market, and India supports exporters. Winning the first orders takes preparation and careful buyer checks. Here is how to do it.

Get export-ready

Obtain an Import Export Code from DGFT, complete GST registration, and register with the Export Promotion Council for your product. These open the door to export leads and support schemes.

Find overseas buyers

Use export marketplaces, trade fairs, buyer directories and your council to find buyers for your product. A focused shortlist you can properly vet beats mass cold outreach.

Verify before you commit

Check each buyer's business, references and payment ability before large orders. Start with a small shipment to test the relationship and the logistics, then scale as trust builds.

Protect the payment

For a new overseas buyer, use advance payment or a letter of credit through your bank rather than open credit. Getting paid safely matters more than winning the order.
