Buying straight from the maker cuts out the trader margin, but factories work differently from wholesalers. Here is how to buy directly without getting caught out.
Search for manufacturers by product and check who really produces versus who only trades. A genuine factory can show its unit, capacity and GST details. Directories and industry clusters are good places to start.
Manufacturers set minimum order quantities because a production run has fixed setup cost. Plan for a larger first order, or combine your requirement with another buyer, to meet the MOQ without overstocking.
Order a sample and a small first batch to check the factory holds the same quality across a run. Consistency matters more from a manufacturer than a trader, because you are committing to bigger volumes.
Verify the GSTIN and address, use part-advance rather than full payment, and agree the specification and delivery date in writing. Build trust over a few orders before you move to larger commitments and better terms.
